You may be afraid of success and not even know it. This is something a lot of us have when we were first getting started with our business or anything in our life. We always somehow seem to find a way to sabotage our own success without anyone else’s help.
I know when I first got started I was doing this. Even today I still find myself doing it every once in a while when I start taking something up to the next level. I find myself doing this when I know I need to do something new but at the same time, I’m scared.
Fear Of Success – Fear Of Change
Success means change. A lot of us simply don’t like change. The other thing is you want a guarantee. You want a sure thing to understand how to get from point A to point B.
With success has to come to a little faith when you going on your journey. You’re afraid to do this because the path isn’t clear. You’re afraid of the unknown.
So subconsciously this is an unknown for you. So you start fearing the change that is going to come with success. You end up holding onto a sure thing. This could be anything. Maybe it’s your job. Maybe it’s another situation in your life.
As an entrepreneur, we have goals. We’re always working on these. That could be quitting your job, more time freedom, or just being with spending more time with your family. An entrepreneur understands that you need to make sacrifices in changes. Having the faith and pushing through even if all the pieces don’t fit together right away. An entrepreneur understands that there’s a whole bunch of steps in-between point A and point B. It’s just tackling each one of these steps one at a time to get to where you want to go.
Sometimes we look at the bigger picture. Doing this tends to create this feeling of overwhelm and stops us dead in our tracks. It’s good to know and understand the big picture. You must focus on the small steps which are your journey to get to the bigger plan.
Let me give you an example. When someone comes to me with a question about lead generation. They asked when I get a lead what do I do next. What do I say in my emails? How often do I email them?
The first thing I asked them. Have you gotten a lead yet? Their answer is no. So then I tell him to let’s worry about getting leads first. Then we’ll worry about the emails later. Let’s worry about getting leads first then will move on into the email portion.
Subconsciously you’re trying to figure out the whole path. The whole journey isn’t known to you. You wanna know how to get leads and email conversions and how to talk to them. Doing this makes them become overwhelmed.
The idea is to master one step at a time before moving on to the next step. Learn how to get the lead first before moving to the next step. The next step will be writing emails.
You’re looking at doing everything all at once because you’re looking for the sure thing. This is where subconsciously we’re sabotaging ourselves.
Fear Of Success – Taking On A Bigger Roll
Let me explain what I mean by this. Now that you are successful your followers are going to expect more from you. They’re going to want to know how to get leads and sales just like you. But you’re afraid that you won’t be able to help them. This is something I struggled with for a while.
But I’m going to tell you one thing. When you start becoming successful. It starts becoming a part of Who You Are. So when it comes to helping people it’s quite easy. When they ask you how you did it. Just show, just show them how you do it. If you go about learning the way we previously talked about. This will be so easy for you to do. It’s a cakewalk.
Hey, I get it. You don’t feel like reading the article. Check out the video were you and I will go through each detail.
Fear Of Success – Putting It All Together
All these things are self-sabotaging. Once you understand that our minds are fixed on a sure thing. Our minds are designed to always find comfort. You do this by trying to find a sure thing. Then what happens you react by pulling back.
Let’s say you walk up to the stove in the burners on. You put your hand over the burner what’s the first thing you immediately do. You pull back. When pressure is on you this is the same thing you do. You self sabotage yourself by pulling back every time you feel uncomfortable.
The fact is we’re all designed this way. Personal growth doesn’t come with being comfortable. For you to grow you need to be uncomfortable. The more times you become uncomfortable. Your comfort zone expands and becomes larger. Every time you get uncomfortable and keep doing that thing to be comfortable. This is what will expand your comfort zone. This is how you grow as a person.
Now as your comfort zone gets bigger. Doing these actions become comfortable for you. The actions that used to make you uncomfortable are completely normal for you now.
Let me know what you think. Let me know what challenges in your business today are making you uncomfortable and how you are working through them.
