🍎 POMODORO TECHNIQUE – My Favorite Tool to Improve Focus and Productivity

Right here.

Did you hear me, I said Focus.

In the blog today You and I are going to talk about focus.

Hey, if you’re anything like me, I always had trouble focusing on any task. It seemed like the only way I could focus on anything is if I was really, really interested in it. then and only then could I devote all my attention to it.

What about you?

Do you find it easier to focus on tasks that you enjoy doing? And you know those tasks we don’t like doing, It’s almost impossible to focus for any length of time.

Improving Focus and Productivity – Working Harder Than Ever?

The way that I went about working on a task before I learned about how important it is to focus. I would plan or schedule any work for tasks. I would give myself as much time as possible to finish them. I thought the only way that I could finish tasks is by donating a lot of my time to them. I always had the mindset to just get it done no matter what.

I thought if I would work harder and longer on it. This was the way to get’em done.

As business owners, we don’t ever seem to have enough hours in a day to devote to our online business. We have an enormous amount of tasks that we have to do on a daily basis. It seems like we are always fighting an uphill battle.

Your day probably consists of writing emails, creating a video, learning new strategies, running ad campaigns, and keeping up with social media. This barely scratches the surface. To be able to get all this and more done requires an intense amount of focus.

Improving Focus and Productivity – What About Multitasking?

We can always multitask?

This is a great way to get your tasks done, right?

I can get chores done around the house while I’m writing my emails.

I got it. What about as I’m reading an awesome book. I can get dinner going at the same time.

I know. As I’m watching this training video I can catch up on my social media post.

This is brilliant. Multitasking is the best way to get everything done.

Not so fast you old multitasker…

Let’s hold on for one gosh darn minute.

Multitasking may be the biggest enemy of focusing. That’s right I said it.

For you to be able to focus and concentrate on the task at hand. Your brain is wired to only think about one thing at a time. We as humans don’t have the ability to multitask like our computers and phones that we use every day.

Think of your brain as a processor. Computers and phones nowadays have multiple processors inside of them. These multiple processors allow multiple things to be done at the same time, hence multitask.

When you’re trying to multitask you’re not able to focus on what you really want to get done. These other tasks start becoming distractions for you.

Right now whenever you’re working on a task dedicate all your focus to this one task. You are going to find out that you’re actually complete these tasks better and faster than if you were to multitask.

Improving Focus and Productivity – Your Deep Focus Plan

Now we need a way to make your focus time as beneficial for us as possible. The way we’re going to do this is to come up with our Focus Plan. This plan is going to help you get your tasks done much faster which will give you more time to do other things.

Why do we have to come up with this Focus Plan?

Our brains cannot focus for a very long time. During our focus times, these have to be around 20 to 30 minutes, before we have to take a focus break.

The plan is to focus on about 20 to 30 minutes. Then take a short break around five-minutes. You’re going to do this repeatedly during your focus time.

Now you’re telling me that only do I get a focus on my task and only my task. But now I got to focus on keeping track of my time too. This is starting to sound a little like multitasking to me.

Improving Focus and Productivity – The Pomodoro Timer

I hear ya. That’s why we’re going to get help with keeping track of our focus times. These are called a Pomodoro Timer. The Pomodoro Timer will keep track of your focus and breaks for you.

You can download Pomodoro Timer apps for your iPhone or Android phones and most are free. There are also Chrome extensions and websites too.

The Pomodoro Timer that I use for my phone and my desktop is Pomotroid. This is the website that I also use. There are plenty of Pomodoro Timers for you to choose from. Take a little time and download a few for yourself and see which ones you like best. If you do find one that you like better let me know.

The way a Pomodoro Timer works is you have focus time which is generally 25 minutes followed by a 5-minute break. This is going to repeat three times. Then on the fourth time, you are going to do your 25 minutes focus like before followed by a 15 minute break. Then the cycle will repeat. Most of the Pomodoro Timers allow you to adjust these times.

25-minute focus, 5-minute break
25-minute focus, 5-minute break
25-minute focus, 5-minute break
25-minute focus, 15-minute break

If you want to learn more about the Pomodoro Technique go here.

Like most of us during the day, We’re probably in front of our computer, at least I am. This is what I do during my focus break. I get up and walk out of my office and away from my computer.

And I don’t go and pick up my phone I leave it right where it is.

During the Pomodoro breaks, I will do some exercise, meditate, pick up a few things around the house. The idea here is I just want to get my body in motion blood circulating again to help my brain for the next focus time.

Oh By The Way.

I’m implementing the Pomodoro Technique as I’m writing this blog.

Then after the break, I get right back to focusing on the task at hand.

What I have found by doing this I stay alert and focused longer throughout the day. I also have a cleaner house and get a little exercise in too. It’s a win-win situation, and boy do I love those.

Improving Focus and Productivity – Wrapping Things Up

final thoughts

Mastering your ability to focus is not an easy task particularly when you’re faced with an increasing number of distractions every day.

find this topic to be actually one thing that I feel I’d never
