If your goal is to create your own blog. You need to have it hosted on the internet for you. A blog is simply a website that has your domain attached to it. We will be getting into creating your domain later.
I don’t want to add to the confusion even before we get started. But there are literally thousands of hosting companies out there that you can choose from. So with that being said how do I make the right decision when choosing my web host. The simple answer is to do your research. Look around and get a feel or ask what others are using.
What I want to do right now is help you get started and save you a lot of time in frustration. I’m going to let you know what hosting company I use. If you already have a hosting company or have one in mind. then plan to use them. I’m not going to tell you this because I want to change your mind. I want to share my experience with you.
I have been using Bluehost for the last 2 years for my web hosting. I have found the setup of my domain and WordPress was a straightforward, and easy process. Their support team has also been very helpful over the years. Now, this is my experience with Bluehost. You can take this with a grain of salt and go out and do your own research.
Let me know who you decide to use. If you are already using a web host company let me know who it is.
While looking for a hosting company during my research I also noticed another web hosting company that a lot of bloggers seem to use. The name of the hosting company is called SiteGround. I also know that my coach uses them for his web hosting too.
How To Choose A Web Host
So many times when people are just starting out and looking for a web hosting company they base everything on price. They look for the lowest price they can absolutely pay per month and base their choice on this alone. I get it I like bargains too. But there are other factors more important than price to consider when making your decision.
Remember this blog is a reflection of you and your company. Your blog is you Inc. You want to think of your blog as your home on the internet. This is your Hub. Everything you do on the internet whether that’s social media, videos or emails focuses on your blog.
One of the important factors you need to think about with your blog. how fast can someone connect to your blog and read your page? This is one of the most important things people skip over.
Number One, Make Sure To Include WordPress
Let’s not overlook the most important thing. Make sure that they have WordPress included for your domain. If you go to a hosting company and the charge you for WordPress.
ONE WORD. LEAVE.
You get it automatic with your domain. Most of the time it’s just a tick box or a question asking you if you want WordPress installed. This process literally takes less than a minute to do. now you’re ready to start your blogging journey.
Hey, I get it. You don’t feel like reading the article. Check out the video were you and I will go through each detail.
Shared Hosting And Private Hosting
One of the ways that hosting companies keep their costs down is by using this thing called shared hosting. This simply means that you share valuable resources with other bloggers. depending on how busy your website and their website are at the same time could slow things down. If you’re just getting started and don’t have a big blog. this is an okay way to go to initially keep your cost down.
If you find that your website is running too slow it’s very simple to move It from shared hosting to private hosting. Private hosting simply means that you’re not sharing valuable resources with other bloggers. When you do this the price is going to go up a little each month. But the nice thing is you don’t have to do anything on your side. What I mean is your domain will be the same and everything else. The only thing you should notice is that your website runs faster.
Secure Socket Layer (SSL)
SSL is to secure and encrypt your website. SSL is a must if you have a checkout page or have people enter their personal information.
You can tell when a website is secured. The URL will start with https. If you go to any website and it starts with https it is secured. If the website starts with HTTP it is not secured.
I’ve heard that Google it’s starting to put more emphasis on sites that use SSL certificates.
When you are purchasing your domain this is when you need to consider to include SSL. Most hosting companies charge an additional fee for this feature.
Just a little side note here. Bluehost offers SSL’s for free.
These are the important features you need to consider when choosing a web host. Right now I want you to understand the important ones. I’m doing this to save on your confusion and make sure you understand what you really need to know.
